We are big fans of the extreme and rock climbing surely rates as one of the more extreme things to do in Mpumalanga, but Komati Gorge Lodge does not provide equipment or guides for mountain climbing. There are plenty of mountains and rock faces to climb on the 2000 hectare farm and you are very welcome to climb, but you do so at your own risk. There are 4 marked routes and a 30m abseil route. Rock Climbing is done with your own equipment and nobody is allowed mountain climbing if an indemnity has not been signed.

Fly Fishing Mpumalanga FISHING AT KOMATI GORGE

One of the most relaxing things to do in Mpumalanga must certainly be fishing!Komati Gorge Lodge is a favorite spot for fly fishing. We have six designated spots for fly fishermen to try their luck with the abundant trout or yellowfish. You can also opt to go upstream with the canoe in search of some more prime spots. There are also three well-stocked trout dams on the reserve; the Lodge dam, Otter dam and Fish Eagle Dam. The Lodge dam is in plain sight from the restaurant and serves as a clear indicator of how active the fish are during certain times of the day.

Hiking trails Mpumalanga HIKING AT KOMATI GORGE

For the brave and the fit, our guests are more than welcome to explore our reserve by foot. Please inform reception before embarking on one of our two hiking trails or obtain a map to ensure that you don’t get lost. The Ibis trial is between 1-2 hours, whereas the Aloe trial is 3-4 hours’ worth of pure indulgence in our pristine nature reserve with sights that include caves, a waterfall and stone ruins, making our hiking trials one of the most beautiful things to do in Mpumalanga.

Experiencing wildlife on horseback is about as close to nature as it gets without it being too intimidating. Your chances of animal sightings are increased on our horse riding trials which are specially chosen to seek out the wild on our reserve. There will also be a trained guide with you at all times and our horses are extremely well mannered, as well as trained to follow instructions well. Komati resort offers a 30 minute or 1.5-hour trial through the reserve. There are also guided rides for kids at the lodge.

Mountain biking in Mpumalanga MOUNTAIN BIKING AT KOMATI GORGE

With unlimited gorgeous scenery in our province, mountain biking is another one of the fun things to do in Mpumalanga, not to mention the beautiful mountain biking trails at Komati Gorge Reserve. There are between 20 to 30 kilometers of trails on the reserve and more can be found around the Lodge in the area. Difficulty ranges from Easy (Marked as Green), Challenging (Marked as Blue) and Death Wish (Marked as Black). Mountain biking or normal cycling is allowed anywhere on the reserve.

Komati Gorge Lodge offers a basic package for 3 hours use of the range that includes the paintball gun, a 12oz gas bottle, 115 paintballs, a protective mask and a jacket. We offer extra paintballs and gas bottles for the more serious players or if you’re just having too much fun to stop.

At Komati 4 Star Lodge, we provide you with a 45 or 65 pound compound bow and you can enjoy an entire hour’s worth of target shooting. It is sure to be good, clean fun and you’ll be surprised how easy it is to master.
